What is your job at Sabik Offshore?
I am a technician in product development at Sabik Offshore. I started by looking into quality claims to learn the products and process and now am fully involved with the development team, setting up functional test, designing testbenches etc.
How was your start at Sabik Offshore?
I felt comfortable with Sabik Offshore from the beginning. I was surprised by the quick and friendly response I got from the HR team. I still wasn’t 100% with my German skills but the company made feel comfortable and accepted throughout the whole application process and onboarding. The people are so nice here and the flexible working environment was parmount to me being able to get my German citizenship.
What did your colleagues support you with?
I am very grateful for my colleagues. Thanks to them, I was quickly able to settle into everyday life in Germany. As a foreigner, it was important to me that I could communicate well with them. It was never an issue however, they were always open and helpful, in work and private things.
What challenges did you face?
In the beginning, this was mainly the German language. With the help of my colleagues, I was able to improve my German quickly. I made a huge leap in my language skills because they took the time to explain things to me so that I could understand them.
And the same with all the technical processes. Even though I was a university lecturer in electronics science, these were all new to me. But my colleagues made it easy for me. I have the feeling that I was able able to gain as much experience in the first six months at Sabik Offshore, than some employees would get in several years.
